RIEDEL

Claus Riedel was the fundamental insight of the history and the entire history of the Riedel glass design in the late '50s. Revolutionized, in fact, literally the dominant style of the time, that of heavy glasses, from the thick glass, carved and colored. His was instead an essential style, sober. The smooth glass, thin, pure. The long stem. The response of the design world, museums and even the most advanced consumer was enthusiastic. The continuous recognition and rewards indicated that a new era was beginning. Claus Riedel was the first man in the world to recognize the distinct influence of the shape of the vessel in the sensory perception of alcoholic beverages. His first glass was in 1957,
and even then Riedel, who believed in the Bauhaus aesthetic philosophy ("the ultimate goal of any artistic activity is architecture," in which form follows function), abandons the traditional colored glasses, carved and decorated. Produces the Brussels line, then the line 7 Exquisit glasses with tall stems, wider dimension, light line, perfect transparency of the rim points, crystal light blown, to appreciate wine. In 1959 the line 'Exquisit' was chosen by the Corning Museum of Glass in New York as "the most beautiful in the world cup." Incredible, admiring today on display, as is still relevant and modern. 1958 is the realization of the Burgundy Grand Cru glass (Pokal Hoch), still the most capable of all 1050 cc. And to think that at the beginning, some laughed at this cup. Riedel's work, since then, have always influenced by the appearance of wine glasses. Even today Professor Claus Riedel is considered the most influential designers in the glass of the twentieth century, so that is the only one with his 'works' in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York (in 1975 were well 127! ). Other Riedel glasses are then at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. His masterpiece, the milestone, however, was the complete line Sommeliers developed with the invaluable help of some of the best Italian professional sommeliers of AIS and officially presented in October 1973 at Orvieto, on the occasion of their national conference. It was a revolution: they were the first glasses - top ten - each designed according to different organoleptic and varietal specific wines. And 'that year, among other things, that he joined the company his son Georg J. Riedel, the current owner and general manager.
